When looking at a Devon Rex, the first thing you notice is its huge ears ~ the Devon Rex's most prominent feature. The Devon's small face, with it's prominent cheekbones, slightly turned-up nose, puffy whisker pads and huge slanted eyes has a "pixie" look that is absolutely charming. With a certain intelligent-but-naughty aura, the Devon Rex gives a definite impression of impishness!

Another striking feature of the Devon is its coat. Devons have a short, rippling coat, which is either fairly loose with a slight wave in the fur, or tight with a definite kink. The coat is extremely soft, being mainly "down" fur, although there are a few guard hairs which break the smoothness (these guard hairs are also softer than those found in other cats).

The coat needs little care by the owners, hand grooming (stroking with the hand or a damp wash cloth), nail trimming, ear cleaning and, possibly, an occasional bath are generally all that is necessary. They have minimal shedding and don't leave hair balls behind. Some Devons tend to produce a good deal of "oiliness". For these Devons, frequent bathing (with special attention the areas between the toes) and ear cleaning is recommended. Some vets (who are not familiar with Devons) have been known to confuse a dirty Devon ear with a cat with ear mites. This is NOT the case.

Devons are medium sized cats that are very muscular and agile. They can jump to amazing heights when they see something that may need exploring or sometimes just because they *can*! They are also very intelligent and naturally curious, investigating anything that looks new, interesting, or unfamiliar.

Devons are wonderful companion animals. They are very loyal to their owners and follow them around, often "talking" with little chirruping noises. They love to be petted and to lie on their owners' shoulders while studying the world, murmuring excitedly to all moving creatures!

Placing our kittens in homes where they will be loved and pampered for the rest of their lives is a top priority for Devon On Earth. As their breeders, we have a strong responsibility to ensure that the our kittens and cats go to owners who will care for them properly, not just physically (with the correct food, vet visits, etc) but also emotionally. It is possible to adopt a Devon at the age of between 16 and 18 weeks old when they will have had all their basic inoculations, been spayed/neutered and are ready both physically and emotionally to face a new world by themselves.

We sometimes have adult cats as well as kittens for placement - retired breeding queens or studs whom we are willing to place in the right homes, to live out their retirement in love and comfort. Contact us if you're interested in a wonderful adult companion!
